One Workforce Catalyst

The Leeds Health and Care Academy is a ground breaking collaboration of Leeds’ health, care and university partners. Its approach is unique, pioneering and the first of its kind in the UK.

The issue

The health and care sector is traditionally designed around different services and organisational systems. That means an often complex journey for patients needing care and sometimes limited career options for the various healthcare professionals involved.

The solution

To address this, Leeds Academic Health Partnership conceived and created The Leeds Health and Care Academy. Launched in 2019, the Academy is a ground breaking collaboration of Leeds’ health, care and university partners. Watch our short film here.

The Academy’s approach is unique, pioneering and the first of its kind in the UK. It supports the city’s vision for a ‘one workforce’ model across the 57,000 people who work in its health and care sector.  Learning and working together as if they are one team, through the Academy people will gain skills founded upon the best research and evidence, to care for the people of Leeds.

Part of its comprehensive and unique learning portfolio is a new, online learning system – another UK-first. Free and open to all 57,000 people in the city’s health and care services, the online system with more than 70 training courses, has opened up access to online learning across organisations. This is helping ensure all employees and volunteers, regardless of employer, can benefit from high quality eLearning.
